Olympics: Looking towards Day 2, Feb. 9

Day two of the olympics are upon us!

To recap today’s events…

  • An american (Sage Kotsenburg) won the men’s slopestyle snowboarding competition early this morning

  • A lot of people from the netherlands know how to run uphill in snow

  • A lot of people from the netherlands know how to run in circles on ice

  • The USA Women’s Ice hockey team beat Finland 3-1 in the first round

  • The Americans reached third place in Team Figure Skating- still to go

To explain team figure skating since there has been a lot of confusion::: This means a pair free skate, a men’s free skate, women’s free skate, and pair ice dancing. They competed against all of the other countries, with the winning team getting 10 points. After all four divisions competed, only the top 5 teams will continue on. So these four american sets have competed and their scores combined to place us in the finals for the team figure skating. The pair free skate happened today (putting us currently in 3rd), so the last three portions (men’s 10:00, women’s 11:05, and ice dancing 12:10) are happening tomorrow… For each portion, the winning team is awarded points- 10 for winning the section, with the lowest team getting 6 (for the finals). So the team will be competing for a medal tomorrow.
