Olympics: Let the curling begin
To get things going, let’s start with a recap of today’s events and winners (please pronounce the W as if you were German).
The United States won Bronze in the team figure skating: It started with the men’s long program free skating featuring Jason Brown, a 19-year-old from Los Angeles who is the definition of F-I-E-R-C-E. A recording of his performance is not available online yet, but watch him at the US Figure Skating Championships- it’s the exact same routine. And I promise, if you haven’t seen him already, this will make you love him. After Jason (who finished 4th for the men’s long program), Gracie Gold, 18, went on to kick some butt. Unfortunately the Russians have produced a little figure skating magician, Yulia Lipnitskaya, a 15-year-old, who kicked Gracie’s personal best’s ass. And then we have Meryl Davis and Charlie White who followed up with a perfect ice dancing performance. If you didn’t already know, they’ve been skating together for 17 years. So that’s just precious.
USA’s Jamie Anderson won the women’s snowboard slopestyle with almost a three point margin between her and the silver medalist from Finland.
USA’s Hannah Kearney won bronze in Ladies’ moguls. Kearney won Gold in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Don’t worry everyone! I know we’re currently in third place when it comes to the medal count– but have no fear, the cooler events are near. Those Norwegians and Finnish people are really good at the long distances in the really cold, but our best events are right around the corner. Expect greatness.

So let’s look to tomorrow- the first day that most of us have to figure out how to juggle school and the Olympics. I’m not gonna lie, it’s going to be a difficult day.
Once again- if you’re going to stay up late, CURLING will begin at midnight and will go until 10am! That’s right people, ten whole hours of throwing stones and sweeping. Though I say that lightly, I love curling. Who knew that sweeping ice at ridiculous speeds could be so strategic and fascinating.

Ok. Ok. So maybe it wasn’t a poem. But I definitely got chills.
