Olympics: Will it be Gold again?
I might be biased, but today seemed like a great Olympics day, especially for the Americans.
Men’s and women’s cross-country– Currently the USA men are in a 38-year medal drought when it comes to cross-country events. Seems as if Americans are more about style than long-distance dedication. But maybe next time!
So let’s look at style points- In the Ladies ski slopestyle, American, Devin Logan, was able to secure a silver medal (the first of the Olympics for the Americans) with a score of 85.40.
Pairs short program figure skating went swimmingly as Americans Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir performed the same routine that they did for the Team Figure Skating event. But this time it was even better. Santana blarred in the background as the team landed jumps that they had previously fallen on earlier in the Olympics. They were able to beat their personal best by a wopping 5 points on the olympic stage. Another American duo, ZHang and Bartholomay, went on with Castelli and Shnapir to qualify for the next round of competition.
Men’s curling v. china was another loss for the team, putting them 0 and 2 for the Sochi games. It seems that, for the team today, China was just way too accurate, despite the men’s great work on the ice. Honestly, I watched the replay- and it’s clear these guys aced 8th grade geometry. Either that or they’re really good at playing pool because they were able to hit every throw.
Women’s curling v. russia was a tough loss, as the ladies were able to stick with the Russians, despite the probable loud conditions as Russians cheered on. The Americans will go on to play Great Britain in round robin play.
In women’s luge, Katie Hamlin was sitting in third place with two runs left- looking to become the first American to medal. Her first three runs were sub- 50.4 second runs (which are incredibly fast). She finished her final run with 50.348. (50.356, 50.276, 50.165, 50.348). Two Germans went on to hold their first and second positions, with Hamlin finishing in the Bronze position. In the women’s luge, Americans ended up clinching the 3rd, 10th and 15th spots.
The men’s snowboarding half pipe was today- and three Americans managed to make it to the final round of two runs each. But unfortunately, all three of those boarders fell on their first run, with Shaun White falling twice. He over-rotated on his third trick, yet he continued to do jumps, nearly breaking his board on the edge of the half pipe, then nearly breaking his ass on impact. But White wasn’t the only one to catch the edge of the half pipe. It seems that the struggle was real. But I guess that’s why they give these guys two runs- because we know they’re all going to try too hard to do the trick that they’ve never been able to complete before. So there’s that. So, into the second set of runs, American Greg Bretz found himself skidding down the pipe, only scoring a 26.25. Then the next American, Danny Davis found himself falling at the exact same time as his first run, leaving it all up to the final American, Shaun White. But it seems that maybe White’s time is up. White finished in fourth place, scoring four points behind the Gold medal winner, Swiss boarder, Iouri Podladtchikov (also known as I Pod).
Maybe he should’ve competed in Snowboarding slopestyle and not cut his hair. Because now he has NO GOLD.
Now, let’s look to tomorrow.
