Not so middle school kickball

It was a hot day, where you could feel the sweat on the cusp of beading down your back.

It was April 2. Less than 24 hours after all the jokes and pranks were finished. It was time to get serious.

And during any kickball battle between the elders of this fine university, there is a need for healthy competition.

So it became the class of 2014 against the class of 20-who gives a shit.

And that’s exactly how the graduates saw this competition. A middle school game of who could kick it the farthest and sweat the least.

Just five innings through, the game had more lead changes than a middle-of-the-road horse race. Then the game took a huge change, the juniors speeding away with a 6-run inning.

There was a moment when the seniors stopped caring.

It might’ve been when the juniors held the seniors to three-up and three outs or when the seniors lessened their effort.

Somewhere in there, the lead extended and the seniors thought more of cold beer and He’s Not than a little red ball flying through the air.

When it was over, the score was 21-10 or 10-21, and it didn’t actually matter.
